_I started off 2011 making these rings. They are a combination of folding copper and fusing the pieces together, creating a very organic form. My original title for them was Sea Space, sort of esoteric and dreamy. I have come back at the beginning of 2012 making these rings again, only this time I have not deluded myself into thinking that they are some sort of 'Sea Space.' It's time to call them like I see them, and you know, there's no way around it, they are 'Dangerous Vaginas' from the 'Dangerous Gateways' series. As early as 30,000 BC, the symbol of the vagina or vulva has been used to represent water, birth, and female divinity ('The Language of the Goddess,' Marija Gimbutas, p.99.) I think it still remains a strong symbol; I guess not much has changed.
