Letters of Adornment
The inspiration for this piece came from a book a friend of mine wrote called 'The Curious World of Bugs.' I looked in the index for words starting with the letter N and came across naiads, "insects that undergo a modified gradual metamorphosis..." (p.49) There was a really graphic illustration of this process that just screamed out to me "JEWELRY!" There is an enameling technique using graphite that I was wanting to play with and thought that this would be a good place to try it. This was a stretch out of my usual organic leafy shapes that I make. Step by step the idea just, well, you could say it metamorphisized (is that a word?) down to the bug bodied chain.
